Day 9- Lord Help My Self Control!

Food. I love it. I love all kinds of food. Sweet, salty, fatty, carby. I love it all. I even like healthy food. Just not as much as the other (tastier) stuff.
I am a rampant snacker. I don't usually eat big meals... But oh man, I can snack ALL day. I snack out of hunger. I snack out of boredom. I snack when I am sad. I snack when I am happy. And don't even get me started on desserts. When a meal is done, my mouth instantly tells me that I need dessert. Every. Single. Time.
So I am really trying to harness all of the self control in my being this year. I am trying to eat better. I really am! So far I am 3 days in on being responsible. And it's so hard! It is especially hard when I travel because a lot of the time I just eat what is quickest and easiest. I am usually at the mercy of whoever I am staying with, so I never want to be a pain. And in the midwest and the south, people don't eat healthy! I mean... the odd person does. But in general, it is really hard for me to find any healthy options-- especially when I am in small towns. So I usually end up going with delicious fried chicken, BBQ, or diner food. My mouth is always happy-- but the dimples in my thighs are not.
I honestly FEEL so much better when I eat well. My body is happy and runs like it is on premium fuel. When I eat fatty stuff, I feel tired, lethargic and kind of sick. So even though I need to eat better for my health and for my fitness goals-- I mostly want to eat better so I feel better.
Here is my lunch today. Flatbread with garlic hummus, red peppers, cucumbers, avocado and salt and pepper. It was delicious. And I didn't even have dessert!
What easy, healthy, and most importantly, DELICIOUS things do you guys eat to get you through the day??

  1. If you ever come to Beaufort, South Carolina I work at a health food store. It's a really small town but we have some of the best vegan and vegetarian food around. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but all of the food is so delicious!!!! I have a hard time eating healthy too

    1. I like vegan and veggie food too. As long as there's no "fake" meat. Yuck. I actually had a vegan donut today that was delicious. Don't tell anyone!

  3. Today I've had an avocado salad with a chicken panini and muesli for breakfast and that's got me through my 15hr shift so far. I started eating healthy before Christmas and am loving the whole foods market and their organic salads are delicious. Quinoa and Aloe Vera juice are my super foods at the moment.

    1. Yes! I love Whole Foods too. They make grabbing healthy stuff to go so easy. They are building one by my house but it won't be done for almost 2 years. :(

  5. This is why I'm glad my guy is a chef-- he makes me healthy versions of all the Tex Mex and Southern foods we love, and so when we go out we try to find things we can't easily make at home, like sushi and seafood. If you're ever in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area we can give you some great recommendations both healthy and deliciously UN-healthy.

We try to do vegan or vegetarian before six o'clock, and have white meat or fish for dinner. Red meat is for splurges or eating out. We'll have avocado toast for breakfast with a soft-boiled egg, grain bowls with beans and fresh vegetables for lunch or home-made-from-scratch ramen with fresh veggies, and fish or chicken for dinner, something like fish tacos or a hearty pot of chili or chicken soup. But when we eat out we love to get burgers and beer or a nice pizza. Mmmm.

    1. Lucky! I need to do more grain bowls. It is hard though because Trevor is really picky with veggies!

  6. I'm totally starting this trend too. I'm trying to cook all my meals instead of going for the unhealthy microwave altrnatitve. Its defiantly hard cause I'm usually in a rush. I'm trying to shop at sprouts more too. I think in the long run it will be better for me and my wallet.

  7. Ugh I hear you! When I'm traveling it is so hard to find healthy options, especially since I don't eat beef, I'm phasing out pork, and my travelmate is a vegan! Sometimes it's just easier to eat french fries, lol. But your lunch sounds delicious and it's good to know we all have a similar struggle.

  8. My husband and I are snaker through the day-ers. To help us make better choices, we stock our fridge with snack type trays. Foods (mostly veggies) that are cut up and ready to eat. We do lots of stirfry too. Mix it up with seasonings. And popcorn is another snack we live on. You can add any kind of seasoning! Sweet, salty, savory! If you detox your body of the bad stuff (sugars, carbs, fats) it's way easier too. Those 3 can literally be as addictive as drugs! Good luck! You can do it! ~Lizzy V

  11. One of my favorite salad dressing to have on hand is Olive oil, lemon juice, agave and Dijon mustard - great for you and goes with everything. One of my fab salads - spinach, feta (just a little), avocado, blueberries and walnuts. If you like tuna, try it with lemon juice and olive oil instead of mayo, then mix on avocado and maybe a little crumbly cheese, throw all over spinach or kale :)

  12. I used to have the same problem - I literally craved chocolate all the time and couldn't say no to really fatty foods. It wasn't until I realized you can live on fruit and veggies that things changed. It sounds weird and unsustainable, but that's how I've been living for the last 3 years, and I've never felt better, and I'll eat chocolate from time to time, but I haven't craved it since. I have massive fruit salads, dairy-free smoothies and juices for breakfast and lunch, and then a huge salad full of leaves, tomatoes, olives, avocado and other veggies for dinner. You can really eat as much of that stuff as you want and you'll only feel better, and it does fill you up. It's not for everyone, but I really recommend trying it, there's loads of stuff online about eating that way :)

  13. Same thing here! I'm really trying to eat healthier and cut down the alcohol. But I failed this weekend. It's specially hard on the weekends, when I go out with my friends and go around town playing with my band and rehearsing.... But lets do it Cherry, I'm with you! We can make it! ;)

  14. I hear ya girl. I'm born and raised in the South. It's such a hard mind frame to get out of (fried everything, butter, cream in everything)But I'm making little lifestyle changes to try to eat healthier too. I try to do a green smoothie at least 4 mornings a week (spinach or kale, nut milk, chia seeds, fruit). And apple slices with almond butter (oh my god) as my go to snack! so so good!!! Thanks for showing us a little of the real you. love you.
